'Commission' Holds a Workshop with the 'Board of Grievances'... and Sheds Light on Its Tasks and Responsibilities
The Communications and Information Technology Commission held a workshop with the Board of Grievances, titled "The Tasks and Responsibilities of the Communications and Information Technology Commission," which aims to highlight the Commission's tasks and responsibilities as a regulatory body for the telecommunications and information technology sector.
During the workshop, a historical overview of the stages the telecommunications and information technology sector in the Kingdom has gone through, from the liberalization of the sector to the present day and future aspirations, was reviewed, and light was shed on the distinct nature of the telecommunications and information technology sector, characterized by its rapid and steady developments that keep it free of regulatory stagnation. The workshop also discussed many topics related to the Commission's role in regulating the telecommunications and information technology sector, its efforts in developing and spreading services, and highlighted its role in safeguarding user rights and protecting the public interest, its oversight in protecting fair competition among service providers, in addition to its regulation of domain name registration on the internet, and its role in handling user complaints, studying violations in accordance with the Telecom Law, as well as its regulation of the frequency spectrum at the Kingdom level and the impact of that on the Kingdom's global standing, placing it among the advanced countries in this aspect.
This workshop comes as part of strengthening ties of communication between government entities, and exchanging knowledge, experiences and observations with the aim of integration between different entities in achieving the public interest.
