Commission Extends the Fingerprint Data Verification Deadline by 45 Days for Prepaid and 90 Days for Postpaid

The Communications and Information Technology Commission announced the extension of the period for updating and verifying by fingerprint the data of prepaid SIM cards and data cards for an additional (45) days -for all customers of service providers- starting tomorrow, with that deadline ending on 26/08/1437H. The Commission also announced the extension of the period for updating and fingerprint-verifying (postpaid) cards by (90) days, ending on 23/10/1437H. The Commission explained in its statement today that failure to update and verify data by fingerprint within the specified deadline will result in the suspension of unupdated SIM cards for two weeks, and upon failure to update during the suspension period, the service will be permanently disconnected from the subscriber. The Commission said that this measure is an extension of its continuous efforts, in coordination with other relevant authorities, to work on protecting all subscribers to telecommunications and information technology services, safeguarding their rights, and preventing the misuse of their personal data, in addition to limiting any negative effects or violations on the use of telecom services in a manner that violates the Telecom Law and its implementing regulations. It is noted that the Communications and Information Technology Commission had previously directed all telecom service providers in the Kingdom to implement the fingerprint verification service for subscribers to mobile telecom services, starting from 11/4/1437H corresponding to 21/1/2016.
