CITC Resumed Work After Eid with a New Organizational Structure

The Board of Directors of the Communications and Information Technology Commission approved a new organizational structure for the Commission, aimed at improving the performance of the Commission's various sectors in line with the development and expansion witnessed by the telecom and information technology sector in the Kingdom in recent years.

His Excellency the Commission Governor, Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Dorrab, said that the telecom and information technology sector, along with the various economic services and activities associated with it, is considered one of the important and fundamental pillars with a growing role in the national economy's GDP in the Kingdom. In recognition of this fact, the government of the Kingdom, may God support it, has deployed generous investments to expand telecom networks and deliver various services to citizens, and has taken numerous steps to regulate, privatize, and open this sector to competition, with the aim of providing telecom and information technology services throughout the Kingdom of high quality and at reasonable prices.

Since its establishment in 1422H, the Commission has played a leading role in liberalizing this important sector, and creating an investment environment based on clarity, transparency, and non-discrimination, starting with the establishment phase and setting the regulatory frameworks, followed by the market-opening phase and the issuance of licenses to provide mobile, fixed, and data telecom and information technology services. In the current phase, the sector is witnessing rapid developments, most notably an increase in the number of competitors, diversification of services, a significant and steady increase in the number of subscribers, and an increasing pace of technical changes and developments globally, which made reviewing the Commission's organizational structure a necessary and important matter to meet the requirements of the coming phase, which calls for continuous review of plans and strategies and taking measures to protect subscriber rights and competition and introduce new services based on the latest technologies.

A comprehensive restructuring of the Commission's system was achieved in cooperation with one of the world's leading consulting firms, and one of the most notable outcomes of this was the creation of new sectors focusing more on competition and subscriber affairs and protection. It is worth noting that this is the first time the Commission has restructured itself since its establishment in 1422H, i.e., ten years before the approval of the new administrative restructuring.

His Excellency the Governor praised the support the Commission receives from the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God protect him, and its harnessing of all capabilities and continuous support to enable the Commission to perform its role in managing the telecom and information technology sector in the Kingdom in a way that achieves the spread of services throughout the Kingdom while achieving competition with fairness, objectivity, and transparency. His Excellency also acknowledged the support and follow-up of His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Chairman of the Commission's Board of Directors, and the Board members in all the steps and procedures undertaken by the Commission.
