"CITC" Announces Extension of the Deadline for Applying for the Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) License Public Competition

The Communications and Information Technology Commission today announced an extension of the release of the application document for obtaining a license to provide mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services through public competition and the issuance of two licenses to provide this type of service, and the Commission revealed that the extension of the application period comes in response to the wishes of interested parties to extend the final deadline for submitting applications.

The Commission announced that the final deadline for submitting competition applications to obtain the license is 3:00 PM Riyadh time on Thursday 25/4/1442H, corresponding to 10/12/2020.

The Commission revealed that offering this license would enhance investment opportunities in the sector, as well as support entrepreneurship projects, and stimulate innovation and diversity in services such as Internet of Things applications and content creation, noting that what distinguishes the telecom and information technology sector in the Kingdom is that it is a vital sector that rapidly keeps pace with any developments in the telecom and information technology industry, which coincides with creating new opportunities, stimulating competition, and fostering an environment for innovation and creativity.

It is also worth noting that the Commission has provided the option for parties wishing to apply for the license to choose between having a foreign partner or not when applying for the license, in order to enhance investment opportunities and support and empower national companies wishing to invest in the telecom sector. The Commission invited interested parties to review the latest

application document for obtaining a license to provide mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services.
