Communications and Information Technology Commission: We did not direct the blocking or restoration of the calling feature for applications

With reference to what has been circulating in some media outlets regarding the return of the voice calling feature to the WhatsApp application, the Commission would like to clarify that it did not direct the blocking of this feature or direct its restoration, and at the same time, it is following up on this matter with telecommunications service providers to understand its dimensions, noting that the provision of communications and information technology services in the Kingdom is subject to regulatory requirements in accordance with the Telecommunications Act and its implementing regulations. The Commission reaffirms its keenness and endeavor to promote communications and information technology services and applications in a manner that achieves the needs and interests of users in the Kingdom and the public interest.
