Penalties in decisions vary based on the type and severity of the violation committed by service providers
In clarification of what the Communications and Information Technology Commission published on its website yesterday regarding a group of decisions issued by the Committee for Review of Telecommunications Act Violations related to violations committed by some telecommunications service providers licensed by it, due to their refusal to implement decisions issued against them by the Commission.
The Commission confirms that this publication was made in accordance with the Telecommunications Act issued by Royal Decree No. (M/12) dated 12/03/1422H, as amended by Royal Decree No. (M/4) dated 07/03/1434H, and after affirmation by the Administrative Court of Appeal at the Board of Grievances. The Commission explained that the variation in penalties in these committee decisions was based on the type and severity of the violation committed and the Commission's decisions that service providers refused to implement, noting that some of these decisions relate to user complaints, some relate to violating promotional offers, and some relate to selling and activating prepaid calling cards in an unregulated manner.
The Commission stated that, in application of the Telecommunications Act, it will publish every decision in which the Committee for Review of Telecommunications Act Violations stipulated public disclosure, in its effort to apply what is stated in the Act to protect users' rights, penalize violators, and enhance fair competition among service providers.
