Communications Commission urges users to contact their service provider before activating international roaming service

The Communications and Information Technology Commission today provided advice to users of telecommunications services traveling outside the Kingdom regarding the use of "international roaming" service and the most important guidance related to it, foremost among which is the importance of contacting the service provider before traveling outside the Kingdom and learning about the packages designated for international roaming and choosing the most suitable one.

The Commission also advised travelers, while outside the Kingdom, to disable automatic app updates to avoid the device downloading new data and consuming a large amount of data, in addition to the necessity of disabling the international data roaming feature if they do not wish to use the service, through the device settings.

The Commission urged travelers to adjust their mobile settings and reset the network selection feature to manual mode to avoid automatic switching, and to choose the international operator with the lowest cost. It also asked them to check the service usage prices for each international operator in the country they will be visiting, either by contacting their service provider or visiting the service provider's online platforms, adding the importance of considering the option of purchasing a local prepaid SIM card for use while traveling outside Saudi Arabia.

Among the guidance provided to travelers, the Commission confirmed that voice call and text message charges during international roaming are excluded from the credit limit, while internet usage charges during roaming are included within it.
