Communications Commission suspends services of a number of SMS service providers

The Communications and Information Technology Commission suspended the services of some "SMS service providers" for sending intrusive text messages (SMS) to mobile communications service users, in violation of the controls for limiting intrusive messages. The Commission affirmed that it continuously works to limit intrusive text messages and impose fines and suspend the services of violating service providers, noting that continued violation by an SMS service provider will result in suspension or cancellation of the license.

In a related context, the Commission explained that it had directed all mobile communications service providers on 23/3/1439H to find strict solutions to limit intrusive text messages (SMS) within (60) days, and to educate users about the quick solutions available, to protect users and limit the phenomenon of intrusive text messages.

It is noted that the "SMS service" is one of the communications services provided under a Class B individual license, and the terms and conditions of the license include compliance with the controls for limiting intrusive messages issued by the Commission.
