Communications Commission requests public consultation on issuing IoT virtual licenses and developing current regulations

Coinciding with the Kingdom's hosting of the Saudi International IoT Exhibition sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology this week, the Communications and Information Technology Commission announced today the release of a public consultation document on issuing new licenses for Internet of Things Virtual Network Operators (IoT-VNO), and on proposed amendments to the regulations for existing Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) for providing mobile communications services.

The Commission explained that the document included a request for views on issuing new licenses for IoT-VNO, in order to meet the growing demand for IoT services, stimulate the transition to digital networks and services in all fields, as well as to meet the growing need of government sectors to digitize their services in fulfillment of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The Commission also explained that it aims, through releasing the public consultation document on amendments to the regulations for existing Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) for providing mobile communications services, to enhance competition in the telecommunications market, and provide a diversity of services, adding that these developmental measures do not mean the introduction of a new MVNO license.

The Commission invited all specialists and interested parties to review the views through its website (www.cst.gov.sa) and submit detailed answers and comments, with the necessity of providing data, analyses, and relevant comparative studies that support the views and comments via email (mvno_reg@cst.gov.sa) no later than 12/07/1439H, corresponding to 29/03/2018, affirming that these submitted views are not binding on the Commission.
