Communications and Information Technology Commission releases public consultation document on licensing broadband satellite services

His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, explained that, as part of the Commission's pursuit of increasing the spread of broadband service usage, and opening the field to new licensees to enhance competition in the communications and information technology sector, and providing modern technologies that meet the needs of beneficiaries in the Kingdom, and within the licensing procedures for providing broadband satellite services, the Board of Directors of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Suwayel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Commission's Board of Directors, in its session held on 24/5/1436H, approved the release of a public consultation document on licensing the provision of broadband satellite services, and requested the views of interested individuals, government entities, companies, and institutions on the licensing method for providing this service.

Given the capability of broadband satellites to cover large geographic areas, especially remote areas that are difficult to reach with fixed and mobile technologies, the Commission prepared the public consultation request and released it to gather the views of interested parties through the Commission's website. The Commission welcomes the participation of all interested parties in expressing their views and providing feedback that will help the Commission develop the documents related to the licensing request for providing this service.
