"Communications Commission": Prominent contributions of the communications and information technology sector in achieving Vision 2030 targets

The Communications and Information Technology Commission reviewed the most prominent achievements made by the communications and information technology sector since the launch of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 five years ago, highlighting the Commission's prominent contributions to strengthening digital infrastructure and enabling major national projects.

The Commission revealed the efforts of the communications and information technology ecosystem that have enhanced the Kingdom's international standing, coming first in government leadership in the telecommunications sector according to the GSM Association (GSMA), as well as achieving first place among G20 countries in the Digital Competitiveness Report, coming second among G20 countries in spectrum allocation, and ranking among the top 10 countries in average mobile internet speed and IPv6 usage.

The Commission noted its contributions in line with Vision 2030, represented by developing digital infrastructure, strengthening and building partnerships with service providers and local regulators, enabling postal services, seeking to enable the Kingdom's transformation into a digital society, in addition to encouraging investment and ensuring fair competition, and achieving the highest standards of service quality.

It also revealed an increase in IoT service subscriptions by 1,371%, a doubling of average mobile internet speed since the launch of the Kingdom's Vision by 1,589%, growth in the increase in bandwidth for providing communications services by about 327%, and Commission data also showed the deployment of more than 63 thousand free "Wi-Fi" hotspots in various regions of the Kingdom, an increase of about 207%.

To enable various sectors within the digital transformation led by the Commission, the Commission revealed during 2020 the National Spectrum Strategy (2020-2025), with a comprehensive vision that includes opening future horizons and the potential of wireless communications in the Kingdom for a bright future, allowing the spectrum to be used for the defense, security, transportation, space, media, environment, and meteorology sectors, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
