Communications and Information Technology Commission: Permanent and promotional offers provided by telecom service providers are subject to regulatory frameworks

With reference to what has been circulated in the media regarding some communications and information technology service providers discontinuing the unlimited internet package over the mobile telecommunications network, the Commission would like to clarify that the permanent and promotional offers provided by telecom service providers in the Kingdom are subject to regulatory frameworks approved by the Commission, including the right of service providers to modify or cancel certain packages according to the circumstances governing each case, including matters related to prepaid unlimited internet SIM offers, whose operational indicators recorded a rise in usage rates far exceeding global rates; a matter that negatively affects network performance and their ability to provide the required quality of services, including a decrease in internet speeds for all customers. The Commission stated that the discontinuation of the unlimited internet package is specific to prepaid package customers, and does not include customers of postpaid unlimited internet packages.
