Communications and Information Technology Commission participates in the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium
The Kingdom, represented by a delegation from the Communications and Information Technology Commission, participated in the work of the 13th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium of the International Telecommunication Union for the year 2015, held in the city of Hiroshima, Japan, during the period November 30 - December 02, 2015, organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union. The Kingdom participated in this global forum with a working paper reviewing a study of the communications and information technology services price basket in the Kingdom, which illustrates the volume of monthly consumption of services.
It is worth noting that this symposium is attended by a number of ministers of communications and information technology, heads of national regulatory authorities for communications and information technology, national statistical offices, heads of international organizations, senior executives of private sector companies, and statistical experts from around the world. The symposium is also considered the main international forum for discussing international statistics related to communications and information technology, and it hosts many high-level panel discussions addressing key issues related to communications and information technology policy and its measurement.
Among the activities accompanying this event was the launch by the International Telecommunication Union of the Measuring the Information Society Report 2015, which includes the ICT Development Index (IDI), a global measurement tool that tracks the progress made by countries in developing their information societies. It is noted that the International Telecommunication Union is the United Nations agency specialized in communications and information technology, with 193 member states.
