The Commission organizes workshop on number portability in Riyadh

The Commission organized today, Wednesday 24/3/1431H, in the Saudi capital Riyadh, a workshop on mobile number portability service, presented and prepared by a number of experts and officials working in the field of communications and information technology, with the participation of a number of representatives of telecommunications and information technology regulatory authorities in Arab countries, in addition to a number of specialists in this field. The speakers discussed a number of important topics such as introducing the number portability service and explaining its types, as well as clarifying the regulatory aspects and mechanisms followed in its implementation, in addition to reviewing international experiences regarding number portability service and outlining the best methods and solutions followed for its implementation.

The technical solutions followed, and the testing stages before launching the service, were also reviewed, along with a discussion of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's experience in operating the service over the past four years since its launch, explaining the monitoring mechanism and lessons learned, in addition to reviewing the most prominent future developments to the number portability service in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The purpose of holding this workshop was to inform the regulatory departments and authorities in Arab countries about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's pioneering experience in implementing the number portability service.

It is noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the pioneering countries at the global level in making this feature available to subscribers, and is the first country in the Middle East, Africa, and the Islamic world to offer this feature, having launched it in the Kingdom on 11/06/1427H, corresponding to 08/07/2006.

The heads of the Arab delegations who attended the Arab network meeting and the workshop praised the excellent organization and preparation, as well as the professionalism of the presentations delivered during it.
