Communications and Information Technology Commission organizes workshop on cloud computing

His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Ruwais, today opened the activities of the cloud computing workshop at the Commission's headquarters. The workshop included several themes clarifying the concept of cloud computing, the benefits of regulating it, an overview of the economics of cloud computing services, and international experiences in providing and regulating such services

This workshop comes as an extension of the Commission's project on regulating cloud computing in the Kingdom, which aims to study and evaluate international experiences and the control mechanisms for the standards, trends, and practices related to cloud computing and its service providers; to prepare the regulatory frameworks for organizing cloud computing services; and to make the Kingdom a hub for these services in the Middle East region.

It should be noted that the Commission has completed the draft regulatory frameworks and accompanying documents in preparation for releasing them for public consultation, as the Commission follows a mechanism of requesting public consultation on regulatory developments of interest to the public. The public consultation document on cloud computing is expected to be released next Shawwal 1437H. All related regulations and guidelines for users, government entities, and private entities will be in place before the end of the current year.
