"The Communications and Information Technology Commission" Issues the Regulatory Framework for the "Internet of Things"

The Communications and Information Technology Commission has issued the Regulatory Framework for the Internet of Things, a regulatory document that includes the requirements for providing IoT services, spectrum use, and IoT devices.

The Commission explained that this regulation aims to make IoT services widely available, encourage the exploitation of business opportunities in IoT technologies and applications, and provide multiple solutions and alternatives for IoT services, such as Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN), in addition to contributing to improving the quality of numerous services through the use of various IoT applications.

The Commission also noted that the adoption of the IoT regulatory framework came after conducting careful studies, evaluating a number of international experiences in this field, and reviewing similar regulations in a number of leading countries in this area.

The adoption of this regulatory framework comes as part of the Communications and Information Technology Commission's efforts and its pursuit of enabling modern technologies in the telecommunications and IT field, including IoT applications, which offer an advanced concept that gives all things the ability to connect to the internet or to each other in order to send and receive data and perform specific functions over the network.
