Communications and Information Technology Commission Issues Document to Protect Users
The Communications and Information Technology Commission has continued its efforts to protect users of telecommunications and IT services, as its Board of Directors approved a document concerned with protecting the rights and interests of users.
The document came as a result of the Commission's study and analysis of the causes of recurring complaints, and the development of solutions aimed at addressing them and preventing their recurrence, so as to achieve user protection. These solutions were incorporated into the "Protection of the Service Applicant/User" document.
The document comprises eleven articles, under which telecommunications and IT service providers are required to follow a set of procedures aimed at protecting the service applicant and user, whether when requesting or cancelling the service, or in billing, as well as in how the credit limit and internet packages are handled, the service provider's obligations to protect the user during international roaming, and its obligations in handling user complaints.
It is worth noting that this document reinforces the Commission's efforts to protect users of telecommunications and IT services and reaffirms what the Commission has previously issued in this regard, including the documents on the terms of provision of telecommunications and IT services.
