Communications and Information Technology Commission Issues Updated Version of the "Telecommunications and IT Device Licensing Regulations" Document

The Communications and Information Technology Commission has issued the "

Telecommunications and IT Device Licensing Regulations"

document in its updated version, which includes regulations related to private wireless communication devices (land, marine, distress, and amateur radio), restricting the import of private wireless communication devices to the Commission's accredited agents, in addition to no longer allowing individuals to import and license these devices directly, coinciding with the updated document coming into effect on 2022/5/25.

The Commission invited suppliers of private wireless communication devices to apply for registration as accredited agents with the Commission, to supply the devices and provide registration and licensing services to individuals, in order to elevate the Commission's services and improve the user experience through modern features that ensure registration and licensing services are carried out instantly and automatically.

The Commission explained that agents may apply for accreditation electronically

, and the Commission has also issued guidance manuals on its website to raise awareness of the document's details and its implementation mechanism, and to introduce the categories of agents, accreditation eligibility requirements, and the conditions and stages of registration and licensing, among other matters.

The Commission noted that these regulations were updated with the aim of stimulating competitiveness in the private sector, raising the efficiency of the device registration and licensing process and ensuring their conformity with the technical specifications issued by the Commission, in addition to automating services and improving the user experience in line with the Commission's digital transformation strategy and the delivery of its services to the private sector and individuals within an integrated digital environment.
