"The Communications and Information Technology Commission" Issues the "Miqyas" Report for the Fourth Quarter of 2021

The Communications and Information Technology Commission today issued its

"Miqyas"

report for the fourth quarter of 2021

, through which it seeks to enhance competitiveness among service providers in the Kingdom.

The Commission reveals, in its

"Miqyas"

quarterly report, the average internet speed and the speed of access to digital content in the Kingdom. The report also compares download and upload speeds among service providers in the Kingdom, includes indicators of 5G network rollout and performance, in addition to ranking service providers in each of the Kingdom's regions, and key data on the most widely used social media and video conferencing applications in the Kingdom.

The fourth-quarter edition of the periodic report showed that the average mobile internet download speed in the Kingdom reached 169.52 Mbps, an improvement of approximately 13.73% compared to the third quarter of the same year, while the average fixed internet download speed reached 104.19 Mbps, an improvement of approximately 3.89% compared to the third quarter of 2021.

The Commission noted, in its

"Miqyas"

quarterly report, that Saudi Telecom Company (STC) topped the list of telecom service providers in average mobile internet download speed, recording an average speed of 176.81 Mbps, an improvement of up to 8.91% compared to the third quarter of 2021.

"Zain" topped the list of telecom service providers in fixed internet speed with a download speed of 164.59 Mbps, an improvement of up to 6.57% compared to its performance in the third quarter of 2021. The

report also revealed the ranking of service providers' performance in mobile internet download speed across the Kingdom's various regions.

On the level of 5G network coverage, the report showed that the number of cities and governorates covered by 5G services reached 84 across the Kingdom, with an average mobile 5G speed of up to 368.69 Mbps, an improvement of 0.26% compared to the third quarter of 2021.

In addition, the

Miqyas

quarterly report reviewed the ranking of service providers in terms of recorded access speed to the content of the most widely used social media applications in the Kingdom (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat), with "Mobily" recording the fastest access time for Snapchat and Twitter, while Saudi Telecom Company, Mobily and Zain shared the fastest access speed for Facebook and Instagram, while Zain recorded the best performance among service providers in terms of "YouTube" video streaming quality over fiber-optic networks.

"Zain" also topped the list in access speed for the (Webex, Microsoft Teams) applications, while it shared the lead with Saudi Telecom Company in access speed for the (Zoom) application, while Mobily recorded the best access speed for (Google Meet).

It is worth noting that "the Communications and Information Technology Commission" seeks, by publishing the

"Miqyas"

report on a quarterly basis, to enhance competitiveness among operators in delivering the best services to users, by raising the level of market transparency through the publication of data and indicator results, and enabling investors and interested parties to review market performance indicators in the Kingdom.
