The Communications and Information Technology Commission called today on the public to participate in voting for Saudi projects via the International Telecommunication Union's website (www.itu.int/net4/wsis/stocktaking/prizes/2019); to support the projects submitted by a number of entities in the Kingdom, in the competition for the United Nations awards for World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2019 projects, which consist of (18) categories, with the winners to be announced during the World Summit on the Information Society Forum scheduled to be held during the period April 8-12, 2019, in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

The Commission explained that the Kingdom is competing in the 2019 edition of the awards with more than (60) projects submitted by more than (28) government and private entities, to be among (1,000) competing projects from around the world, adding that winning the awards is based on specific criteria set by the award's secretariat, including the number of votes each project receives.

The Commission affirmed that these awards are presented within the United Nations system, organized by the International Telecommunication Union, the specialized United Nations agency in the field of telecommunications and information technology, through which the best projects that have harnessed telecommunications and information technology to implement the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, are selected.

It is noted that the Kingdom has won (8) awards and (8) certificates of excellence in previous editions of the World Summit on the Information Society project awards.
