'Commission' Introduces the Regulatory Sandbox Environment for Delivery Applications

The Communications and Information Technology Commission held, today, Sunday, a workshop to introduce the second phase of the regulatory sandbox environment project for delivery applications, with the participation of both the General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises "Monsha'at," and the Saudi Commission for Intellectual Property, and the attendance of a number of delivery service providers.

During the workshop, an overview was presented of the regulatory journey of the delivery applications sector, which witnessed remarkable success in accommodating the increasing demand during the coronavirus pandemic, before beginning to review the guide to the regulatory sandbox environment for delivery applications "sandbox," its objectives and timeline, in addition to introducing the levels of the regulatory sandbox environment and evaluation criteria.

The General Commission for Small and Medium Enterprises "Monsha'at" also presented an overview of the support packages and programs designated for startup projects, and shed light on the various financing options and support programs and capacity building in project management mechanisms and business planning and development, while affirming the establishment of financing programs and solutions that suit the needs of delivery applications through the venture capital investment system.

In turn, the Saudi Commission for Intellectual Property introduced its roles in protecting the rights of trademarks and innovative ideas. The workshop then concluded by opening the floor for inquiries and suggestions, followed by the Director General of Planning and Development at the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Eng. Nayef Shashah, affirming the difference between the current phase and the previous one, which went through different circumstances at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, stressing the importance of service providers' participation in regulatory processes by presenting proposals and developmental opinions, and noting that the current phase is based on partnership and integration among the various stakeholders in shaping the future of the sector.

This comes following the "Communications and Information Technology Commission's" recent launch of the second phase of the "sandbox" regulatory environment project for delivery applications, with the aim of enabling delivery applications to conduct and develop their business by creating a safe and stimulating environment for startups and encouraging them to innovate new services and technologies, and identifying best practices and regulatory procedures in the delivery-via-electronic-platforms sector.
