Commission Hosts the Sixth Supplementary Meeting of the Arab Network of Telecom and IT Regulators in Riyadh

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications and Information Technology Commission, hosted this morning, Tuesday, 23/03/1431H, in the Saudi capital Riyadh, the sixth supplementary meeting of the Arab Network of Telecommunications and Information Technology Regulators, to review the results of a number of projects on the network's agenda from the previous meeting held in Jeddah last year, including the merger "integration" project between the telecom and audiovisual media sectors, the broadband and internet services development project, the project to formulate a guiding regulatory framework for telecommunications and information technology regulators, in addition to reviewing the results of the preparation project for the Ninth Global Symposium for Regulators held in Beirut, Lebanon, in November 2009.

Official delegations from telecom regulatory bodies in a number of Arab countries participated in the meeting, in addition to representatives of the "International Telecommunication Union" and the "Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf."

The Chairman of the Arab Network of Telecommunications and Information Technology Regulators for its current term, His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Ahmed Al-Jaafari, stated that the Communications and Information Technology Commission sought during its term chairing the network to follow up on the agreed-upon projects, describing the coordination that took place between the Commission and the entities leading these projects as having been of a high degree of professionalism, which resulted in the maturation of these projects in a way that will positively reflect on all regulatory bodies and enhance frameworks of cooperation and coordination among them.

This meeting comes ahead of the seventh annual meeting, in which the achievements made during the current term will be evaluated and the path for the next term will be charted, in which the network's chairmanship will move to the telecom regulatory authority in the sisterly Republic of Sudan.
