Commission Holds a Workshop

As part of the Communications and Information Technology Commission's efforts to make telecommunications and information technology services available at a high level and quality in all regions of the Kingdom, the Commission organized a specialized workshop today, Tuesday, 15 Jumada al-Akhirah 1435H corresponding to April 15, 2014, opened by His Excellency the Governor of the Commission, Eng. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Darrab, to discuss the quality of telecom services provided and to explore and develop mechanisms that help improve them and discover weaknesses so they can be addressed early.

The entities participating in this workshop include infrastructure-based telecom service providers in the Kingdom, a number of academic and research institutions, and specialized experts. The workshop covered a number of important themes, including: the regulations and controls related to service quality regulation and the Commission's role, the method used for field verification of coverage level and service quality, and international experiences in this topic.

It is worth noting that the Commission had previously issued the regulations and controls that would create an environment conducive to improving the level and quality of service provided to the public, after studying the best global experiences and practices, and follows up on the compliance of infrastructure-based telecom service providers through field measurements of sites selected according to specific mechanisms, as well as through the quarterly reports issued by companies and published on their websites, including the results of their service quality performance. The Commission has also recently prepared extensive studies to review the methods used to verify coverage and service quality and the best global practices. In addition, it has developed easy electronic mechanisms enabling the subscriber to submit their observations related to service and coverage in the event they are not addressed by the service provider, so that the Commission can intervene under its regulations and require the service provider to find appropriate solutions, and the mechanisms developed enable beneficiaries to follow up and know the action taken regarding them.
