Commission Discusses Ways to Develop Wireless Device Services in the Kingdom

The Communications and Information Technology Commission, in the presence of His Excellency the Governor Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, discussed in a virtual workshop that hosted a number of suppliers and investors in the wireless telecom device market, ways to review and discuss the development of wireless device services in the Kingdom.

During the workshop, His Excellency the Governor pointed to the importance of discussing the challenges facing service providers, and informing them of the Commission's plans and future directions in this field, affirming the Commission's keenness on direct communication with investors, taking their views, and working to align them with the Commission's plans and targets in all upcoming development stages.

During the workshop, an introductory overview was also presented of the scope of wireless devices in the Kingdom, which includes: wilderness and distress devices, in addition to maritime communication devices and the Automatic Identification System (AIS), and amateur radio devices, in addition to introducing the size and capabilities of the sector's markets in the Kingdom, and shedding light on the stages of development of wireless device registration procedures in the Kingdom, and introducing the Commission's direction to develop the sector's services, before the workshop concluded with an open discussion to survey companies' views on current obstacles and proposed development plans.

It is noted that the Commission is working to develop wireless device registration services, encourage investment in these services, and strengthen mechanisms for protecting beneficiaries, and contribute to raising the quality of wireless devices imported into the Kingdom, and verifying their compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
