Commission Directs Service Providers to Suspend the Decision Linking SIM Card Recharge to National ID

The Communications and Information Technology Commission directed all mobile telecom service providers to suspend the decision on the regulations governing prepaid SIM cards, which included not accepting SIM card recharges except after entering the ID number, effective from today, Wednesday 26 Safar 1439H corresponding to November 15, 2017.

The Commission explained that this decision will enable all prepaid SIM card users to recharge them without entering the ID number, given that the procedures currently applied have addressed the phenomenon of the spread of anonymous SIM cards.

It is noted that the Commission had issued a decision linking the recharging, top-up, or balance transfer of prepaid mobile SIM cards to the ID number on 12/09/1433H corresponding to 31/07/2012, with the aim of curbing the spread of unregistered prepaid SIM cards.
