CITC Finalizes a Unified Mechanism for Unsubscribing from SMS Services

The Communications and Information Technology Commission announced today that, in coordination with mobile telecom service providers in the Kingdom, it has finalized a unified mechanism for unsubscribing from short message service (SMS) subscriptions that were requested, whereby a subscriber to any of the services will be able to cancel their subscription by contacting the company's customer service centers, or automatically by following these steps:

1- Sending the letter (غ) for services provided in Arabic, or the letter (U) for services provided in English, to the number of the subscribed service.

2- If the subscribed service includes several services and the subscriber wishes to cancel one of them, this can be done through:

ü Canceling subscriptions to services provided in Arabic by the subscriber sending (the letter غ, then a space, then the service sub-code) to the number of the subscribed service.

ü For services provided in English, subscriptions are canceled by sending

(U then space then Service Command) to the number of the subscribed service.

Mr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Malik, General Manager of Public Relations and International Affairs and Official Spokesperson for the Commission, explained that this announcement comes as part of the Communications and Information Technology Commission's keenness in the Kingdom on everything that would facilitate matters for users of telecom services, in addition to being, on another front, part of the Commission's awareness-raising tasks in informing users of the easiest ways to deal with everything related to the services provided to them.
