CITC Approves the Launch of Special International Roaming Packages for Scholarship Students and Families During Official Holidays

The Communications and Information Technology Commission approved a number of special promotional packages and offers for international roaming, suitable for students studying abroad and their accompanying family members, as well as families during their stay abroad during official holiday seasons. The Commission expects this to help encourage companies to lower domestic communication prices by offering more discounted packages and offers, in addition to encouraging companies to increase spending to improve service quality and increase their reach; this is the objective the Commission seeks to achieve by opening the market and encouraging fair competition in the telecom and information technology sector in the Kingdom.

The Commission had previously noted the transfer of millions of SIM cards outside the Kingdom, and their misuse to receive international calls free of charge, benefiting primarily individuals and business sectors outside the Kingdom who use Saudi SIM cards to receive calls for free, at the expense of domestic communications, which made international calls equal to domestic calls, and in some cases, unprecedentedly, cheaper than calls between domestic networks, which are more deserving and entitled to price reductions.

The Commission affirms its support for any promotional offers introduced by companies that comply with the Commission's regulations and are in the interest of subscribers.
