CITC Approves Updated Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO)

The Communications and Information Technology Commission approved an updated Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO) document submitted by the Saudi Telecom Company, which governs the wholesale services provided by a service provider with an extensive and large telecommunications network across multiple regions (the dominant service provider) to the networks of other telecom service providers, with the aim of ensuring a fair and transparent regulatory environment for all telecom service providers.

The updated Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO) document contributes to lowering wholesale prices among service providers, which in turn has the effect of lowering the prices of services provided to individual and business end users. This document also serves as a regulatory reference to ensure the availability of services to all service providers equally and without discrimination in prices or service quality, and as a contributing factor in achieving greater competitiveness in the sector, positively affecting the diversity of services and the number of service providers available to end users.

It is worth noting that the Commission approved this update to the Reference Interconnection Offer (RIO) on 15/5/1440H, following study, analysis, and evaluation of other countries' experiences, in addition to taking into account the views of other service providers.
