Among 360 Global Innovations... The Kingdom Wins the "World Summit on the Information Society" Award in the 2022 Edition
The Kingdom won the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2022 Award, granted by the International Telecommunication Union, for the "Nama" portal presented by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, among 360 global innovations competing for the award, raising the total number of awards obtained by the Kingdom since joining the International Telecommunication Union to 12 awards.
In the presence of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, Houlin Zhao, representatives of member states at the forum, and with the participation of His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, and His Excellency the Kingdom's Permanent Representative in Geneva Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Al-Wasel, the award was granted to the "Nama" portal for its innovative role in building geospatial databases that support the agricultural sector, contribute to the quality of agricultural products, and enhance food security to achieve sustainable development, covering 11 different activities, represented in issuing advanced agricultural records, issuing activity practice licenses, technical linkage between the project and the Ministry's programs and relevant entities, in addition to periodically updating databases, and distributing agricultural areas based on comparative advantages.
The Kingdom's achievement of the World Summit award comes after high competitiveness with global projects, while its crowning reflects the standing of the communications sector at the international level and the level of development witnessed by the sector's infrastructure, as a result of the continuous support it receives from the wise leadership, aimed at accelerating digital transformation projects and activating the role of technology in various sectors, including government services, healthcare, education, and entertainment.
