Acting Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission: The Commission Opens a Communications Track at the International Engineering Conference and Exhibition

Eng. Majid bin Mohammed Al-Mazyad, Acting Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, noted yesterday the government's support for achieving the goals of the communications and information technology sector under the National Transformation Program 2020, which supports the achievement of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, where the program targets the rollout of broadband services via fiber optics to 2.1 million homes in urban areas, and the rollout of high-speed wireless broadband services in remote areas to 70% by 2020. Eng. Al-Mazyad reviewed the goals, initiatives, and future plans of the Communications and Information Technology Commission regarding the rollout of broadband services, infrastructure sharing, providing additional frequency spectrum, protecting users, enhancing competitiveness, and developing indicators to measure and publish service quality for the public.

In a related context, Eng. Al-Mazyad estimated the value of e-commerce transactions in the Kingdom at about SAR 29.7 billion by the end of 2016, noting that the average spending of a Saudi online shopper amounts to SAR 3,942. He added that 79% of internet users in the Kingdom actively participate in at least one social media platform, and that the percentage of male and female internet users in the Kingdom aged between 12 and 65 years has exceeded 90% of the population.

This came during the participation of Eng. Majid bin Mohammed Al-Mazyad, on behalf of His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, in the International Engineering Conference and Exhibition organized by the Saudi Commission for Engineers to discuss tracks in value engineering, project management, structural, mining and geological engineering, communications and computer engineering, and energy engineering.
