In Fulfillment of Vision 2030, the Communications and Information Technology Commission Completes 50% of the First High-Speed Wireless Broadband Project Ahead of Schedule

The Communications and Information Technology Commission announced today the completion of 50% of the first high-speed wireless broadband project for remote areas ahead of the deadline set in the work plan, which will benefit more than 70,000 citizens and residents in (13,312) dwellings in centers, villages, and hamlets belonging to (13) governorates, including the governorates of (Al-Majma'ah and Rumah) in the Riyadh region, the governorates of (Al-Khafji, Hafr Al-Batin, and Qaryat Al-Ulya) in the Eastern Region, as well as the governorates of (Al-Qurayyat, Dawmat Al-Jandal, Sakaka, and Tabarjal) in the Al-Jouf region, in addition to the governorates of (Al-Uwayqilah, Rafha, Turaif, and Ar'ar) in the Northern Borders region.

This project is one of the initiatives of the National Transformation Program 2020 for the communications and information technology sector, within the expansion plan for the rollout of high-speed wireless broadband services in remote areas, which aims to develop the sector, enhance digital infrastructure, and provide high-speed broadband services to all regions of the Kingdom in fulfillment of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

It is worth noting that the Communications and Information Technology Commission signed, on 1 Rajab 1438H, the contract for this first high-speed wireless broadband project for remote areas with the Saudi Mobile Telecommunications Company (Zain), for a period of (24) months, and the project is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2019.
