According to the "Miqyas" Report for the Third Quarter of 2020: 5G Service Rollout Extends to 44 Governorates

The Communications and Information Technology Commission announced an increase in the penetration rate of 5G service in the Kingdom during the third quarter of 2020, after its rollout extended to 44 governorates across various regions of the Kingdom.

The Commission revealed, in its quarterly "Miqyas" report on internet speed and digital content access speed indicators in the Kingdom, that Zain topped the list of 5G service rollout in the Kingdom, having rolled out 5G services in 41 governorates, followed by Mobily with 16 governorates, and finally Saudi Telecom Company (STC) after rolling out 5G service in 7 governorates.

The "Miqyas" report also revealed the map of 5G service rollout in the Kingdom, where 5G service was rolled out in the Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, and Qassim regions, in addition to the Eastern Region, by Zain, Mobily, and Saudi Telecom Company (STC), while the 5G network was rolled out in the Hail and Al-Baha regions by Zain and Mobily, while Zain was the sole provider of 5G services in the Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Tabuk, Asir, Najran, and Jazan regions.

The report issued by the "Communications Commission" at the end of the third quarter of 2020 recorded an increase in average mobile 5G download speeds in the Kingdom, which reached 467.72 Mbps, and revealed that Saudi Telecom Company (STC) recorded the highest average mobile internet download speed for 5G service, with an average speed reaching 495.70 Mbps, followed in second and third place respectively by Mobily with an average speed of 429.7, and Zain with an average mobile internet download speed reaching 427.77 Mbps.

The "Miqyas" report comes within the framework of the "Communications Commission's" work to enhance competitiveness among operators to provide the best services to users, by raising the level of market transparency through publishing data and indicator results, and enabling investors and interested parties to review market performance indicators in the Kingdom.
