Communications Commission Calls on Travelers to Learn About Rights Related to International Roaming Services

The Communications and Information Technology Commission called on travelers to contact their service provider before traveling outside the Kingdom to learn about the services and packages related to

international roaming

and choose the most suitable one, as part of a set of tips and guidelines the Commission has directed to travelers, coinciding with the approval to lift restrictions on citizens' travel abroad and their return, and the opening of land, sea, and air points of entry.

The Commission also advised travelers to activate mechanisms that help reduce data consumption, including disabling automatic app updates, and disabling automatic downloading of photos and videos in apps that offer this feature, emphasizing the importance of reviewing all information that may benefit the user during their travel, including the rates of

the international roaming service

and the rates of using the service with each international operator, and considering the option of acquiring a SIM card from the international operator for use while traveling.

The Commission noted the importance of knowing all rights related to international roaming, including services not subject to the credit limit during international roaming, namely voice call and text message charges, and other rights, indicating that the user must be notified of a set of information as soon as they connect to mobile communications networks during international roaming, via free short text messages in their preferred language, including the rates for receiving and making calls and text messages, whether for a user belonging to a service provider in the Kingdom or in the roaming country, in addition to internet usage rates, and means of contacting the service provider while roaming.
