Under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC, now the Communications, Space and Technology Commission) organized the forum “Technology in the Lives of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing” on 27 November 2018 at the Commission's headquarters in Riyadh.
The forum was opened by H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of CITC, with participation from the public and private sectors.
It aimed to enable technology for the deaf and hard of hearing and spread digital awareness across society, and to give innovators, entrepreneurs and the private sector the opportunity to serve this group.
During the forum, MCIT's competition for the “Best Technical Solution for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing” was launched to develop innovative digital applications that remove the difficulties they face and strengthen their role in society.
Several initiatives were also launched in partnership with King Saud University, the Human Resources Development Fund (HADAF), Microsoft, Elm and Huawei.
