The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC, now the Communications, Space and Technology Commission) organized the forum introducing the regulatory controls and technical solutions for in-building coverage on 8 October 2018 at its headquarters in Riyadh, opened by H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of CITC.
The forum aimed to introduce the controls issued by the Commission for providing in-building coverage and to highlight the latest technical solutions, in order to improve the coverage and quality of mobile services inside large buildings such as airports and shopping malls.
The Governor explained that the regulations aim to facilitate fast, cost-efficient deployment of ICT infrastructure, encourage network sharing and joint infrastructure build-out, and ensure all service providers are treated fairly.
Eng. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Mazyed, Deputy Governor for Technology and Infrastructure, noted that 80% of telecom network usage takes place indoors.
STC, Mobily, Zain, Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia and Al-Masiah Group took part, and the latest LTE-Advanced and 5G technologies were demonstrated at speeds exceeding 1 Gbps.
