H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC, now the Communications, Space and Technology Commission), opened on 18 December 2018 at the Commission's headquarters in Riyadh the workshop “Enhancing IMT Development: Policies, Spectrum Valuation, Auctions”.
The workshop was held in cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and attended by more than 20 experts from several organizations and research bodies, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
It included panel discussions on developments in International Mobile Telecommunications for broadband services, the spectrum needed to deploy services and 5G, country experiences and best practices, and the design of spectrum auctions and assignment approaches.
The Governor stressed that spectrum is the cornerstone of ICT services, and that making it available wisely and using it efficiently opens the way to further progress and development.
He noted that the Kingdom had adopted regulations for managing the frequency bands identified for IMT systems and was working to release more spectrum to enable 5G.
