The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC, now the Communications, Space and Technology Commission) organized the 2017 annual ICT forum under the title “E-Commerce in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” on 14 November 2017 at its headquarters in Riyadh.
The forum was opened by H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Governor of CITC, with the participation of the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority, Saudi Post, the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority, Saudi Customs and the Digital Transformation Unit.
It brought the relevant government entities together with e-commerce experts, investors and providers of logistics, payment and ICT services, in panel sessions offering a comprehensive view of e-commerce locally, regionally and globally.
The forum coincided with the release of the Commission's report on e-commerce in the Kingdom, which estimated business-to-consumer e-commerce transactions at about SAR 30 billion in 2016, making the Kingdom one of the largest markets in the Middle East and North Africa.
The Governor affirmed that supporting the e-commerce ecosystem is one of the strategic objectives of the National Transformation Program 2020 in support of Saudi Vision 2030.
