Recycle your device Terms & Conditions

Introduction:

The "Recycle Your Device" initiative is a non-profit initiative launched by the Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN). Its goal is to raise awareness about community sustainability, promote the practice of recycling electronic devices in the Kingdom, and enable a circular economy by finding solutions for electronic waste.


Definitions:

Initiative Partners: The entities contracted to implement the various stages of the initiative, including collection, transportation, recycling, repair, and donation of devices.

Participant: An individual (whether a citizen or resident) who participates in the "Recycle Your Device" initiative by handing over one or more devices to one of the initiative's partners for recycling.


Initiative Implementation:

The initiative is implemented by the initiative partners, covering the collection, storage, shipping, inspection, recycling, and delivery to charitable organizations.


Social Responsibility:

The initiative is non-profit for all its partners. All initiative partners pledge to donate the devices or the funds received from their recycling to accredited charitable organizations.


Participation in the Initiative:

All citizens and residents in all regions and cities of the Kingdom have the right to participate in the initiative.


Devices:

The initiative accepts the following electronic devices: Desktop and laptop computers, mobile phones, landline phones, printers, modems, computer accessories such as mice, keyboards, chargers, digital cameras, speakers, hard drives, scanners, and others.


Device Handover:

The initiative partners accept devices through a request for free home pickup by designated initiative partners.


Data Privacy:

The initiative partners commit to following the necessary procedures to destroy all data and information stored on the devices during the recycling process, making it irrecoverable. This ensures the confidentiality of data and information, either through physical destruction of the devices or by using special data wiping software (Data Wiping).


Environmental Protection:

The initiative partners commit to using safe and certified methods for recycling electronic waste and adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety, as the recycling process is carried out in accordance with global standards that ensure environmental protection.


All devices submitted to the 'Recycle Your Device' initiative are subject to the following terms and conditions:

a. Devices are collected, stored, and shipped by the initiative partners after receipt to recycling plants. These plants will either dismantle the devices, physically destroy them, and recycle them into raw materials; or repair and donate them to charitable organizations; or use parts of them as spare parts to repair other devices for donation.

b. The participant has the right to choose to have their devices repaired and donated, or to have them destroyed and converted into raw materials.

c. In the case of device donation, the initiative partners have the right to inspect them, assess the feasibility and cost of repair, and determine the best option, whether it is to repair them, destroy them, or use parts of them as spare parts to repair other devices and destroy the remainder.

d. Upon receiving the devices, the initiative partners have the right to inspect them to ensure they are among the types accepted by the initiative. They have the right to refuse to accept any device that does not fall within the scope of accepted devices.

e. The participant declares that they are the owner of the device, that it has not been used for any illegal purposes or activities that threaten national security, intellectual property, or the environment, and that they bear full responsibility before the initiative partners and any other official authority if this declaration is proven to be untrue.

f. The participant commits to erasing all data and information and resetting the devices before handing them over.

g. The device cannot be tracked after it has been handed over to the initiative partners, as it is transported to the recycling plant after receipt.

h. The participant does not have the right to request the return of the device after it has been handed over, nor do they have the right to claim any financial compensation in exchange for the device.
